In the 17th and 18th centuries Herefordshire Redstreak cider was prized across Britain and was even a serious rival to wine, with travel writer Celia Fiennes describing Herefordshire in the early 1700s as being "like a country of gardens and orchards, the whole country being very full of fruit trees and it looks like nothing else."
